In this post, I’ll tell you about a holiday in Bandung: climate of Bandung, how to get to Bandung from Jakarta and from some other cities and countries, things to do in and where to stay in Bandung, Indonesia.

Indonesia is amazing: it has so much to offer tourists: breathtaking views, wild nature, unique architecture, hot weather all year round, cheap prices and friendly local population.

The most popular and famous destination in Indonesia is Bali: backpackers, newlyweds, groups of girlfriends and many other people go there. Bali is famous for its beaches, surfing camps for beginners, nightlife in Kuta and absolutely wonderful places like Ubud or Uluwatu. However, the weather in Bali might be quite unpredictable, especially in November – December, so it could rain a lot. Read more about Bali in December in this article.

Another popular destination in Indonesia is Yogyakarta. Have you seen these wonderful photos of the incredible temples, which look like something from the parallel universe? Well, that you can find in Yogyakarta.

Moreover, there’s Bandung, the main point of interest of this post. Bandung is not as famous as Bali or Yogyakarta, but nonetheless, it’s fantastic. Just like Yogyakarta, Bandung is located on the Java island, but unlike Yogyakarta, it’s located in the western part of it. The great thing about holiday in Bandung (for some people who can barely survive the heat, just like me) is that Bandung is located in the mountains, so the temperatures aren’t so high there (they are below 30 and that’s great, 26-28 on average, and during the night it can even be as low as 19-20 degrees Celsius).

How to get to Bandung? Holiday in Bandung

Bandung is a huge city, so getting it is not that complicated. The easiest way, however, is getting there from Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. It might seem far from Jakarta, but if you hire a car, you can get there in 1.5 to 2 hours. In case you’re planning to book a car, you can use Avis (we prefer using it all the time).

Another option is a bus, but the buses in Indonesia are quite unpredictable, so if you’re risky enough, you can try that option. Also, there’s a train connecting Jakarta and Bandung, and according to many travellers’ forums, it’s the best way to get to Bandung for the people, who don’t want to hire a car.

Bandung has its own airport (and it’s even an international airport) with direct flights from/to many domestic cities like Denpasar, for example. There are direct flights from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, so in case you’re planning to go to Bandung directly without visiting Jakarta, this sounds like a possible option.

Things to do in Bandung

There’re plenty of things to do in Bandung. Bandung is famous for its nature in the first place, so the main landmarks are either mountains or lakes.

Patenggang Lake – a beautiful lake located not so far away from Bandung. It’s possible to buy a boat tour there and take some great pictures from the middle of the lake.
Tangkuban Perahu – is an impressive active volcano, which is a must-visit for everybody going to Bandung (of course, when it’s not erupting)

Kawah Putih – is also a wonderful lake, but unlike Patenggang lake it’s a crater lake and has amazing light blue colour

If you’re looking for some activities during the holiday in Bandung in the city itself, you might also visit:
– Gedung Sate – a beautiful building and one of few Dutch heritage architectural landmarks, that are left in Bandung
– Trans Studio Bandung – for fun: a great amusement park (some say, however, that it’s mostly for kids)
– Bandung Grand Mosque – A very impressive mosque and a gem of Bandung

Where to stay in Bandung

There’re plenty of options for hotels/hostels during the holiday Bandung: hotel booking.
However, since Bandung is a huge city with the typical big city problems (traffic, pollution etc), it makes sense to stay outside of Bandung.
You might consider Lembang as good option. In Lembang, you can stay in Grand Paradise Lembang Hotel. Grand Paradise Lembang is really close to the main attraction of Lembang – the floating market and besides it looks really nice.

Don’t forget to change money in advance (in case your currency is other than US dollars or Australian dollars). Even though local exchanges accept other currencies, it’s much easier to get around with the US dollars. You can check the exchange rate & order money here: Travelex.

To summarise, Bandung is a great place for everybody who wants to meet Indonesian culture and discover Indonesian nature. It’s easy to visit from Jakarta or Singapore/Malaysia and it’s worth spending there a couple of days. Holiday in Bandung would be great for you if you already like Indonesia and its culture!
