Love is in the air ❤️!

Do you want to surprise or impress your beloved and experience something new? In one of these locations, you will definitely feel like in a dream.

Here are my top-10 locations for Valentines Day weekend getaway:

1. Seville, Spain

You’re probably wondering, why Seville is on top of this list and not Paris. Well, Seville is an amazing city with a unique style of architecture, incredible medieval Palace (Alcazar) in the middle of the city and a huge garden, suitable for romantic walks in the shadow of the Spanish sun. Alcazar palace is also a filming location of Game of Thrones, so if your other half appreciated the famous series a lot, a visit to this place will be an unforgettable surprise and a perfect Valentines Day weekend getaway.

Seville is also famous for cosy cafes with affordable but at the same time very delicious food, fancy bars at the river and crowded local churrerias (who doesn’t like churros?).

In February, the weather is usually quite warm (around 18 degrees Celsius), so you can take a small break from a typical European winter and enjoy some sun!

2. Marrakech

Even though Morocco is a Muslim country and you probably won’t be holding hands while wandering around the city, the whole experience in Morocco is very unique. You can visit amazing Arab palaces (riads) and walk around the souks (markets) looking for souvenirs and rare catches. You will probably stay in one of these riads, which were transformed into exotic hotels. Marrakesh is also famous for very affordable food and is also a great place for shopping (mostly for home decor).

For us, Morocco is a special place, because it was our first trip as a couple, and it was the place where we told “I love you” to each other. Our story is described in the post (just after this photo of our hotel Riad Tamarrekecht).

3. Verona

Well, this is the city of Romeo and Juliet. Do you need further explanation? It’s great for Valentines Day weekend getaway. No more words needed!

We’ve revisited Verona last year during our 10-day road trip across Europe (you can find some really useful information in this post).

4. Paris

The city of love. It’s especially great in February because it’s not as crowded as in summer or early autumn. In Paris you can walk, laugh, kiss, buy a baguette and eat it right in front of the bakery because it’s so incredibly delicious and tempting; spend an afternoon in a cafĂ© with some famous macaroons and go on a date to Louvre. You can kiss on top of the Tour Eiffel and hold hands walking down the Champs Elysees.

And this weekend you will never forget.

5. Lisbon

Lisbon has its own atmosphere. At the first sight, it’s not romantic at all, but you will be charmed when you climb on top of the fortress and see the whole city prospering in front of you with its old churches, even older trams (hey, it’s a mystery how they are still functioning) and tiny narrow streets. You will walk around some neighbourhoods where all the doors and windows are open, and the residents of the houses are communicating to their neighbours living across the street screaming through the open windows. It’s such a different lifestyle and you will get a chance to be a part of it for the duration of your walk through this district.

6. Bruges

Bruges is very romantic. (Please, don’t take the “In Bruges” movie for reference). In this tiny city, you can go for a walk through some deserted streets where you seldom encounter other tourists. Sometimes, it’s amazing to be alone with your significant other hidden from the crowds, and Bruges is a perfect place for that. Also, it has some great restaurants and cafes which serve their famous waffles (don’t forget, it’s still Belgium).

7. Segovia

Hey, have you heard of this I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E city? I bet you haven’t! You should totally go there. It has everything: mountains in the background, an aqueduct (have you ever seen one of those?), a romantic castle (almost as good as the one in Germany, Neuschwanstein), plenty of amazing cathedrals and churches, a park, which looks like Savannah and great weather all year round! And all this makes it a marvellous Valentines Day weekend getaway!

8. Edinburgh

Because why not? Edinburgh is a great Valentines Day weekend getaway destination.  Maybe you have even been there a couple of times. I would come back there every weekend if I could. A perfect Valentine’s Day in Edinburgh would be: going for an afternoon tea in one of those posh hotels around Princes Street and spending the rest of the day going down the Water of Leith walk (starting somewhere around the Ocean Terminal). And yes, it does have plenty of public toilets around (cuz you will definitely need them after a proper afternoon tea).

9. Tallinn

The capital of Estonia is only on its way to becoming famous, still a long way to go. Wanna see Eastern Europe? You can do it in Tallinn. Tallinn is a small city but at the same time, it has everything because it’s a capital. The most interesting part of the city is located inside the fortress, which was built in the Middle Ages (wow). And at the main square, you can have a medieval style lunch and try some dishes you have never heard of (do you know what does bear meat taste like? You can find it out), for example in the Tavern called “Olde Hansa”. There are more taverns around the main square and all of them are worth spending a couple of hours.

10. Reykjavik

And the last but not least destination for a perfect Valentines Day weekend getaway is Reykjavik. If you want to have an amazing weekend in Iceland, prepare to spend a lot. You should definitely go on some excursions like “Golden Circle”. And what can be more romantic than watching the Northern Lights with your other half? Right, a day in Blue Lagoon! So, give Iceland a chance!
