Date ideas in Edinburg: what to do in Edinburgh when it rains

Don’t know where to go in Edinburgh on a rainy day? Check this post for the best date ideas in Edinburgh: only the best suggestions for you two. Even though the city looks a bit somber and gloomy especially when it’s raining, you can experienceone of your most romantic dates there. Who said you will be sad if the sky cries?

Imagine you planned a romantic walk to Portobello but suddenly a storm appeared. So your lovely plan was cancelled. Don’t worry, I’ll shed some light on 7 fabulous date ideas in Edinburgh on a rainy day.

1. Have some Afternoon tea

You’ve probably heard of the word combination afternoon tea, huh? No, it’s not just a tea consumed in the afternoon, it’s a whole ceremony! And one of the best date ideas in Edinburgh for sure! With unlimited tea of your choice and many delicious bits of sandwiches and biscuits. Even though this tea experience is not precisely one of the cheapest (the average price is around 30 pounds for 2 people), it is possible to find cheaper deals on Groupon (17 pounds for two).

The ultimate afternoon tea ceremony in Balmoral (the fanciest hotel in Edinburgh) will cost you 35 pounds per person but you will be sitting in such incredible environment:

You can choose whatever you want, but I would recommend you Waldorf Astoria, as we liked it a lot!

2. Grab a lunch in one of those cute cafes like the Blue Bear Cafe

Because it’s not so expensive and it’s insanely cute. And maybe a bit hipster, if you don’t mind.

3. Go for an early dinner in Howies

Howies is definitely one of the best places to taste real Scottish food, e.g. haggis! However, if you’re local, you will also like the place because of amazing food (the salmon is heavenly!) and impressive interiors (the one on Waterloo place is the best!). Moreover, they offer a 2 course-menu for early dinner (15 pounds) and for lunch (11 pounds). Not bad, huh? Could be one of your date ideas in Edinburgh for sure.

4. Have a lunch/ drink on the top of Victoria Street /Johnston Terrace

Because the view is just unmatchable. Haven’t seen anything like that anywhere! There are some cafes on top (e.g. Maxis Bistro & Wine Bar), and well, I don’t know about the food, but they have some great coffee!

5. Have a cake in an old style cafe on Royal Mile

One of the loveliest date ideas in Edinburgh involves cake tasting. Well walking down the Royal Mile is already romantic but if you want to make it as sweet as honey, come by the place called Clarinda’s Tearoom.

6. Enjoy some pizza in Pizza express in Stockbridge

Because you’ll have an incredible view of the river. So if the weather doesn’t allow to stroll around the Water of Leigh walk, just come by there and share a freshly baked pizza with your date.

7. Chat in Starbucks with castle view

Not many are aware of Starbucks on Princes street with the wonderful look-out over the castle. What if you just met your date yesterday and want to know her/him better. Why not do it in a coffeeshop with the best view in town ?
