Are you heading to Mexico soon and looking for the best instagrammable places in Playa del Carmen? Look no further! In this Instagram guide to Playa del Carmen, I’ll tell you about the most Instagrammable spots we’ve discovered during our weeklong stay in Playa del Carmen!

If you’re new to this blog, hi! We are Liza and Jose, a millennial couple based in London, UK. Jose (long for Pepe) was born and raised in Mexico, and hence, as you can imagine, we travel to Mexico quite often. This year was our third time visiting Cancun & Riviera Maya, and this time, we also managed to stay in Playa del Carmen for longer. Are you interested in our other posts about Mexico? You can find all of them HERE.

Here’s what you can find in this post:

Let’s get started!

Is Playa del Carmen great for photos?

Before we start with the best photo spots in Playa del Carmen, I must say that Playa isn’t the most photogenic place on earth. If you compare it with Tulum, which is absolutely stunning, by the way, Playa del Carmen hardly has any Instagrammable places. That’s because Playa del Carmen usually caters to a slightly different audience – it’s a destination for people who work remotely and stay there for months or party people who come there for a long weekend. There are also a few families staying in resorts and a lot of local tourists staying at apartments and hotels (and with their relatives).

However, Playa del Carmen has changed a lot in the last few years. Even its main pedestrian street, 5th Avenue or Quinta Avenida, has changed quite a bit in the last five years. When I came to Playa del Carmen for the first time in 2015, it looked like a small village. Now, in 2021, it looks very different. Give it five more years, and it will have many more stunning photo spots and Instagrammable hotels.

However, if you’re looking for a place that is very photogenic RIGHT NOW, consider going to Tulum.

Stunning Instagrammable Places in Playa Del Carmen you can’t miss!

Little Coconut Shop near Hard Rock Cafe

My favourite Instagrammable spot in Playa del Carmen is a little coconut shop near the Hard Rock Cafe. It’s located right in the heart of Playa del Carmen, and is super pretty inside (despite the fact that it’s a tiny place) and sells the most beautiful coconuts in the entire Riviera Maya!

The Reef 29 Hotel Rooftop

In the last few years, Playa del Carmen experienced a sharp rise in stunning rooftop places. One of such amazing rooftops is the rooftop of The Reef 29 hotel. Not only it has stunning views, but it also has a jacuzzi and swimming pool at the top!

Public beach entrance at Calle 4 Nte

This spot on the public beach near Hard Rock Cafe or Calle 4 Nte is perfect for evening pictures. We went there during sunset, and it looked absolutely stunning. There are palm trees right on the beach, and in general, this place looks like a tropical paradise.

Martina Beach club

A visit to Playa del Carmen is unimaginable without visiting a couple of beach clubs. Head to this post if you’re interested to learn a bit more about the best beach clubs in Playa del Carmen and their opening times. We’ve been to a few beach clubs in Playa del Carmen, and Martina Beach club was the prettiest one!

Aloha Raw Bar

Another trendy and photogenic location in Playa del Carmen is Aloha Raw Bar. Aloha Raw Bar serves beautiful bowls, and the interior of the place is pretty as well!

Mahekal Resort

One of the most beautiful places in Playa del Carmen is the Mahekal resort located right in the heart of Playa del Carmen. It has a very beautiful beach with a lot of palm trees and beautiful bungalows. I’m not 100% sure if it is still true (it’s worth double-checking), but before you could pay around $30 for a day pass at Mahekal, so you can use their sunbeds.

The stunning pink building at Avenida 7 Norte & Calle 26N

Another photo spot in Playa del Carmen is a beautiful pink building located at the crossing of Avenida 7 Norte and Calle 26N, very close to the hotel Reef 28.

La Cueva del Chango

Another of the most Instagrammable places in Playa del Carmen is one of the most popular restaurants in town – La Cueva del Chango! La Cueva del Chango is a traditional Mexican restaurant (meaning that you will be able to try all the local specialities), and it’s one of the best-rated places in the entire Playa del Carmen. Moreover, it’s also very photogenic. What more can you ask for?

Muy Salsa

I liked Muy Salsa because of its stunning street art on the walls. Apart from that, it’s also a nice and very affordable restaurant located right in the heart of 5th Avenue.

Beaches in Playacar

If you ask me where is the most beautiful beach in Playa del Carmen, I would say that it’s outside the town, in the place called PLAYACAR. The good news is that you can easily access PLAYACAR walking on the beach. If you’re ready to walk for 45 minutes – 1 hour, you can reach some pretty stunning beaches. My favourite beach is located in front of a five* resort called Palmaia, The House of Wellness.

Street art near Calle 58N & Quinta Avenida

If you walk Quinta Avenida all the way to the end (if you’re wondering where it finishes), you can see some stunning street art of your way! My favourite piece of art was this stunning eagle located near Calle 58N! Moreover, on the way there we saw a toucan!
