Hi everyone, it’s been a while since the last post in the food series on Tripsget (apart from the best bubble tea in London), and it’s time to change that. In this post, I would like to share with you my experience in the brand new restaurant in Central London: duo of Xier and XR. Xier and XR is basically one restaurant located on different floors. They have different names, menus and concepts. While Xier is a proper high-end restaurant with a tasting menu that will leave you impressed, XR is more casual, simple and not pretentious.

I had a chance to visit XR for dinner. I was invited to check out the restaurant, however, all opinions, as always, are my own.

Review of Xier London (XR London)

As I already mentioned, we had a chance to visit XR London for dinner. The overall atmosphere was nice and the restaurant looked stylish and somewhat cold. Perhaps because of the abundance of grey elements in the interior design.

There’s no point to talk much about the menu because it’s supposed to change very often (every 2 weeks). However, all the dishes are reflecting the current seasonal British produce, which is great. You can see the menu we had to choose from below. The current menu is available online here.

As you can see, there are some very small sharers in the first category, both starters and mains in the non-vegetarian section called “Sea, Land to Taste” and mains in the “Garden to Taste Section”. At first I found it a bit confusing and spent a while trying to find out what to order, but eventually, I understood.

The presentation of dishes was impressive, we really liked how all of the dishes looked like. We asked for two starters to try – one was tuna tartare and another one was lamb sliders. We really liked both of them, but truffle fries were our favourite.

Cocktails were hit and miss. We asked for 2 cocktails, 1 was great and 1 was not good. At the price range of £13-15, I think cocktails are definitely overpriced and I would suggest asking for a glass of wine instead.

Then, it was finally the time for the mains. Pepe asked for linguine with prawns and it was nice, however, not very remarkable. Pasta is rarely remarkable, so it’s definitely okay. I asked for a vegetarian dish for a change – roasted aubergines and it was also okay. We also asked for the desserts – a baba rum and very elaborate ice cream and chocolate tart.

Summary of visiting XR London – our verdict

We really like trying and discovering new restaurants in London – it was a pleasure visiting XR London in Marylebone. Service was great and friendly, the atmosphere was good and we really really liked the starters. It’s interesting to see the menu change so often – it’s a great concept and you can definitely try something new every two weeks. You can book your visit to XR here.
