Planning your honeymoon in Mauritius and not sure what to do and where to stay? In this 7-day itinerary for a perfect honeymoon in Mauritius, I will share with you all the most romantic resorts, the best beaches and overall, the best and most romantic things to do. One week in Mauritius is enough to see most of the island and relax, as the island is very small – you can drive all around Mauritius in less than 6 hours. This itinerary will include options with and without a car rental. I understand that a lot of couples want to relax on their honeymoon and the last thing they want to do is to drive, while some other couples actually prefer driving around the island themselves.

Before we start, I just wanted to answer some frequently asked questions about Mauritius.

Honeymoon in Mauritius FAQs:

What time of the year did you go to Mauritius? What’s the best month to go to Mauritius for honeymoon?

We went to Mauritius in October and the weather was perfect! Well, actually, the water temperature was a little bit too low for my liking, I wish we had waited until the end of October, as by the end of the month, it would have been perfect.

Everyone has different temperature preferences when it comes to planning their ideal honeymoon and vacation in general. Some people enjoy hot weather, and if this is the case, the best time to visit Mauritius is during December, January, and February. During this time, the climate is very hot and humid, with plenty of rainfall, especially in February.

If you don’t enjoy hot temperatures and prefer cooler weather, then you should plan your visit to Mauritius between April and October. During these months, temperatures are colder, and it can even get chilly between May and September when temperatures can be as low as 18-20°C.

According to locals, October is their favourite month to visit Mauritius because it is very sunny and pleasant without being too hot. However, if you prefer swimming in very warm water, the end of October or the beginning of November is a better time for you.

Which beach in Mauritius is the best one?

It’s difficult to identify the best beach in Mauritius as it ultimately depends on your personal preferences. Despite having visited most of the beaches in the area, I’ve come across several “best beach” lists with which I disagree.

Personally, my favourite beaches were Le Morne Beach, which is located near the Paradisus Beachcomber and Dinarobin Beachcomber resorts, as well as Belle Mare beach, particularly the beach of C Mauritius.

While many people recommended Grand Baie beach, we found it to be a bit average, especially compared to some other beaches. However, Pereybere beach just around the corner was lovely. Read my article about the best beaches in Mauritius here >

How to get to Mauritius?

Most people fly to Mauritius and from a few large European cities like London or Paris or have an interchange in Dubai or Istanbul. You can also fly to Mauritius from Reunion, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, India and South Africa. There might be more charter flights arriving from various destinations. You can check the prices and availability of flights to Mauritius here

Renting a car in Mauritius

Mauritius has plenty of car rental agencies and you just need to pick the one that suits your budget and has the car that you’d like to rent. We usually rent cars through Rentalcars.com and they have quite a few options in Mauritius & you can check the prices and availability here >

Without further ado, let’s get started with the itinerary for the perfect honeymoon in Mauritius.

The Perfect Itinerary for a 7-day Honeymoon in Mauritius

Days 1-3: Le Morne

Arrival & airport transfer in Mauritius

Immigration and customs take a pretty short time in Mauritius International Airport as the staff is very efficient, so you can expect to be out in under 40 minutes.

However, if you are renting a car, that might take another 30-45 minutes. I recommend renting a car on Rentalcars.com – they always have very good third-party insurance, and it’s always very convenient.

If you decide not to rent a car, you can book a transfer in advance or simply take a taxi (or, perhaps, arrange a transfer via the hotel).

It takes just over an hour to get to Le Morne peninsula from the airport and the drive is very picturesque.

The best honeymoon resorts in Le Morne Area

I recommend choosing Le Morne as your first destination in Mauritius. Le Morne is very conveniently located next to a lot of points of interest in Mauritius and quite a few different tours also depart from this area.

For your first honeymoon resort, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dinarobin Beachcomber. Dinarobin Beachcomber is one of the most beautiful hotels that we have ever visited! It’s located on a beautiful beach with views of the Le Morne Brabant. The rooms are a bit dated, but everything else is incredible! Dinarobin is a little bit more upscale compared to Paradis, a sister resort, with which it shares the territory, as it has 6 heated pools. We had a pool right next to our villa, which was amazing! However, the beach is better at Dinarobin as there are fewer rocks and the entrance to the sea is much easier. Dinarobin is one of the most popular resorts in Mauritius and gets booked out pretty early (actually, the only reason why our friends picked Paradis is that Dinarobin was fully booked). They also have special room rates for honeymooners. You can check the availability here >

If Dinarobin Beachcomber is not available, there are some other amazing resorts nearby, for example, LUX Le Morne or Heritage Awali located slightly further away, in the Bel Ombre Area.

The best things to do in Le Morne on a honeymoon

Depending on the time you arrive at your resort on the first day of your honeymoon, you can either book a tour, or just rest in your room and then go somewhere for dinner.

Have dinner in a historic Château.

For dinner, I recommend visiting one of the most iconic restaurants in Mauritius located in a historical Château – Châteaude Bel Ombre. The place is stunning, and while it does take around 30 minutes to drive there from Dinarobin Beachcomber, it was worth the drive, in my opinion. It’s essential to book it in advance, as it gets pretty busy.

Go on a dolphin-spotting tour.

Another amazing activity you can do in Mauritius is a private dolphin-spotting tours. There tours depart in the Le Morne area, which is very convenient for you. Perhaps, you can spot some whales during this tour, too! You can check the availability and price of the dolphin tour here.

Explore the Natural beauty of Mauritius

The Southern part of Mauritius has the most dramatic landscapes. It’s home to the largest National Park in Mauritius, Black River Gorges. Black River Gorges National Park is a protected area that covers over 67 square kilometres, and it’s famous for its lush tropical forest, where you can see lots of local plants and animals. You might even spot the Mauritian flying fox, pink pigeon, or kestrel! There are some fantastic hiking trails that go through the forest, and the views of the gorges and waterfalls are breathtaking.

To explore Black River Gorges, you can either drive there yourself and take one of the hiking trails as we did. We used the Le Petrin entrance and hiked a part of the Macchabée trail to the Macchabée viewpoint. The hike was pretty easy; it took us around 55 minutes to go up, 20 minutes to take photos and another 45 minutes to go all the way back.

Alternatively, you can take a private sightseeing tour around South-West Mauritius, where you can visit some of the most beautiful viewpoints in Black River Gorges park and some other stunning locations. You can check the availability of this tour here.

Visit a tea factory – Bois Cheri

Then, you can also drive for another 15 minutes to the most famous tea plantation and factory in Mauritius – Bois Cheri. The factory has been around since the 1800s, and they still make black tea using old-school methods. It’s now a popular spot for tourists who are interested in how tea is made. When you visit, you can take a tour of the factory, try out different types of tea, and buy some souvenirs at the gift shop.

The factory’s property is pretty impressive – you have to drive through a large part of it to get to the restaurant and shop, and it’s honestly really beautiful. You might also spot some animals, like monkeys and deer, snacking on the tea leaves.

Visit La Vanille Nature Park

La Vanille Nature Park is an exciting wildlife park in Mauritius that offers visitors an up-close and personal encounter with various species of reptiles, animals, and insects. Established in the early 1980s, the park is home to many giant tortoises, crocodiles, geckos, and more. The best part is that you can get really close to these fascinating creatures and even hold a baby croc if you’re feeling brave enough. Don’t forget to check out the insectarium too, where you can see rare butterflies and insects from all over the world. All in all, a great place to spend a day with your significant other.

Hike Le Morne Brabant

Finally, hiking Le Morne Brabant is an awesome adventure for nature lovers in Mauritius. The mountain is around 556 meters tall and offers stunning views from the top. The hike takes about 3 hours and is quite challenging, so it’s not for everyone. However, the reward for reaching the summit is worth the effort, with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes and crystal-clear waters. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear proper hiking shoes to ensure a safe and enjoyable hike. Don’t forget to snap some photos for unforgettable memories! Le Morne Brabant is stunning but it has a very dark and sad history. You can read more about it here.

Days 4 & 5 – Gran Baie area

On your fourth day in Mauritius, it’s time to move to another location, Gran Baie. Grand Baie is a popular coastal village situated in the northwest of Mauritius. It’s known for its bustling atmosphere, lively nightlife, and stunning beaches. The village is surrounded by crystal clear waters and boasts a bustling harbour lined with luxury yachts and fishing boats.

The Northern part of Mauritius is very different from the South of the island. While the South is very rural and virgin, the North is very developed, and it’s where the majority of the population lives in Mauritius. The best shops, restaurants and bars are located around the Gran Baie area.

Where to stay around Gran Baie for honeymoon

There are two amazing resorts I would recommend in the Gran Baie area for a honeymoon. One is Royal Palm Beachcomber, and the other is LUX* Gran Baie Resort and residences. Both resorts are stunning and have a very high review ratings. In my opinion, LUX* is a bit more suitable for a honeymoon – it’s absolutely stunning and it offers a lot of privacy as well.

Rest and relax

If you had too many activities in the past three days, then one of the best things to do would be just rest and relax, you’re on a honeymoon, after all! Hotels in this area have amazing beaches and it’s usually not windy at all, so you can swim a lot here.

Visit Château de Labourdonnais

Château de Labourdonnais is a museum located in a stunning colonial-style château built over 150 years ago. You need to buy a ticket to visit the Château, however, the tickets are pretty affordable and they also include a rum tasting (if I remember correctly, the tickets were below $10 per person). We couldn’t taste much, as Jose was driving, but they give you very generous portions of rum!

There is also a lovely restaurant located right next to the Château.

Explore the islands on a private catamaran tour.

Another amazing activity that can start from the Gran Baie area would be a private catamaran tour to the Northern Isles. The tour lasts circa 8 hours. You can check the prices and availability here.

Days 6 & 7 – the East of Mauritius

On the last 2 days in Mauritius, it’s time to move to the Eastern part of the island. The Eastern part is windier; however, the beaches are fantastic and resorts feel very luxurious and more secluded, perfect for a honeymoon.

Here are some of the best honeymoon resorts in the East of Mauritius:

One & Only Le Saint Geran – possibly, the most luxurious resort on the entire island.

C Mauritius – one of the very few all-inclusive resorts in Mauritius. It’s compact and very modern. We stayed there and loved it!

Shangri-La Le Touessrok – another fabulous resort, located slightly far away from everything, but close to the Ile Aux Cerfs island.

The best things to do in Eastern Mauritius for honeymoon:

Visit the Ile aux Cerfs island

For a bit of adventure, take a boat tour to the stunning Ile aux Cerfs island, where you can enjoy snorkelling, parasailing, and other water sports. You can also just relax and sunbathe there or even go for a short hike. You can check the prices and availability here.

Take a private East of Mauritius tour

You can also take a private sightseeing tour exploring the East of Mauritius. This tour also includes a visit to the Bois Cheri Tea factory, which is also accessible from Le Morne. You can check the availability here.

Summary of a 7-day itinerary for a honeymoon in Mauritius

Overall, I think that 7 days in Mauritius are enough to have a fantastic honeymoon and see what Mauritius has to offer. If you think that staying at 3 hotels in 7 days is too much, I recommend skipping the Eastern part of the island, as it has the least number of attractions, even those the resorts there are among some of the most impressive ones.

Even those Mauritius is very small, various parts of the island have their distinctive vegetation and landscapes and even population and culture. The South of Mauritius is pretty laid-back, rural and has a low density of population. However, it has the most beautiful beaches in my opinion (Le Morne peninsula). Gran Baie is very busy and dense, and has a lot of shopping opportunities and beautiful beaches. Belle Mare & Quatre Cocos doesn’t have a dense population but it’s an area with a lot of upscale resorts and some of the most beautiful beaches as well.
